Welcome to ThisFicWriter

This fic writer’s (screen) name is Hibbidyhai. If you’ve travelled here from another source, likely my DeviantArt or Fanfiction.net profiles, then I’d like to thank you for stopping by. This is the home for my original fiction, essays, digital media portfolio, and more. I know the site is a little bare at the moment but I promise (both to you and to myself) to fill it up soon enough. This site, just like my fiction, fanfiction, and other creative endeavors, is a work in progress. But as I fill it up with content goodness I hope it will grow to be something truly special.

For now the site will be divided up by project. First up is Kaeliterra, a steampunk epic. The first part is nearly ready to see the light of day. Second is Ex Angelus, a modern fantasy involving angels, demons, redemption and revenge. I first began Ex Angelus while I was in college, and while I got pretty far, it never did quite get finished. My writing style has evolved and improved in the years since I began that story. I’m proud of the work I did, but I know that I can do better now. A complete rewrite is in the works. That rewrite will have to wait until I get a significant portion of Kaeliterra out into the world.

I know that, generally speaking, authors don’t release their novels until they are finished.  But this is a brave new world, and I’m going to try and do something slightly different. You see, I’ve been writing fanfiction over at Fanfiction.net for a couple of years now. Star Wars fanfiction, to be specific. The goal of that fanfiction writing was primarily to become a better writer, and what better way to improve than to practice. In the two years since I posted my first chapter I’ve written over a hundred and twenty thousand words. But I didn’t write all those words at once. Instead I released it chapter by chapter, month by month. I received critique a feedback along the way, and I feel like I’ve grown. But doing things that way has trained me not to be concerned with letting my readers see only a ‘finished’ work. In fact, despite those one hundred and twenty thousand plus words, I haven’t finished either of my fanfics.  My readers have stuck with me on this journey, sated with monthly chapter updates. I don’t know if that is technically a great way to produce a publishable work of writing. And while I don’t wish to compare myself in anyway to the caliber of writer of a George R.R Martin or Patrick Rothfuss, I’m sure their fans would love small monthly updates as opposed to waiting years upon years with none at all.

My goal for this site is that there will be new content at least once a month, if not more often than that. That goal is aimed to be a motivator for myself, as well as a promise to my readers. I don’t know where this journey will lead. But I’m excited to find out.
